The Junior Engineer (Civil) exam is a recruitment examination conducted by various government organisations and departments to fill the position of Junior Engineer (Civil).These are SSC JE conducted by Staff Selection Commission, RRB JE conducted by Railway Recruitment Board. Candidates are appointed to Group-'B' posts in the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Quantity Surveying, and Contract domains through the SSC JE exam. The exam aims to assess the candidates' knowledge and skills in the field of civil engineering. While the specific details may vary depending on the conducting organisation.
The eligibility criteria for the Junior Engineer (Civil) exam may vary based on the organisation conducting the exam. Generally, candidates are required to have a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university or institution. Some organisations may have additional requirements such as age limits and experience. Age : Min Age 18 years , Max Age 33 years for UR Category, 36 years for OBC- NCL and 38 years for SC/ST. Ex Servicemen candidates have an age relaxation on the basis of their service in defence and category.
SSC JE
The exam pattern of SSC JE typically consists of two papers; Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1 is computer based examination and Paper 2 is descriptive type.

RRB JE
RRB JE is a two tier Examination followed by Document Verification and Medical Evaluation. STAGE -1 Computer Based Examination-1 is the preliminary examination of RRB JE and one of the most important also. Only the candidates who score minimum marks prescribed by the various Zones are allowed to sit for the Second Stage Examination.
Second stage CBT is also similar to that of the first stage and carries 150 marks.

Eligible candidates should complete the registration through the online mode. Candidates can check the following steps to register themselves on the official website of SSC.
Step 1: Go to the Official Website i.e ssc.nic.in
Step 2: Navigate to the registration portal
Step 3: Enter all the required information only in the registration form such as the Candidate’s Personal information and some academic details
Step 4: Click on the “Submit” button and get the system-generated registration ID and Password.
Upon completing the registration process, candidates must fill up the online application form for SSC JE
Step 1: Log in to the portal with the credentials like registration ID and Password on the official website of SSC.
Step 2: Fill in the application form with important details like academic information, exam centre preferences, etc.
Step 3: Following this, candidates must upload important documents like scanned recent coloured passport size photographs and scanned signatures.
Step 4: Preview the details on the application form and submit it.
Step 5: Take a printout of the same.
- Thoroughly understand the syllabus and exam pattern provided by the conducting organisation.
- Identify the subjects and topics that are included in the syllabus.
- Collect relevant study materials such as textbooks, reference books, study guides, and online resources that cover the topics mentioned in the syllabus.
- Develop a study schedule that allocates sufficient time for each subject or topic. Divide your study time based on the weightage of each topic.
- Start with the basics and fundamentals of civil engineering. Build a strong conceptual understanding of key topics such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, water resources engineering, and construction management.
- Practice solving numerical problems related to various topics, including calculations for structural analysis, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, and surveying. Understand the underlying concepts and formulas to approach these problems effectively.
- Obtain and solve previous years' question papers for the Junior Engineer (Civil) exam. This will help you familiarise yourself with the exam pattern, time management, and the types of questions asked.
